Project Shorty part 11 – Axle Skid Plates

As Project Shorty has painted axles, which will obviously be scratched up during everyday use, I decided to install a set of skid plates to at least protect the center section as it is the lowest hanging part. Hopefully the damage to the sides will be a bit less as well.

Skid Plates

I bought the skid plates from a local club member that makes them himself under the banner “Proj 43”. If you are interested in a set let me know and I can put you in touch with him. They are very reasonably priced and come with all the hardware you need. I think they are a great simple addition and I’ve seen how well they perform out on the trail on some other club member’s trucks. I will definitely be putting them on all my stock axled trucks eventually. They appear to be made of a mild steel and include aluminum spacers, longer screws and nuts. All you have to do is remove the lower two screws from your stock axle, press in the spacers and put the new screws through the spacers and tighen them down. It is less than a 5 minute installation.
